Healthy Skin all the time

Posted by Admin Friday, 5 November 2010

Why we should spoil our skin? Simple answer. Its the part that shows how clean we are, skin shows how we really take care of ours selves, knowing that we could taking care of our selves is actually taking care of our skin.

Exfoliation has its benefits, but it is important to be gentle with sensitive or thinning skin. If exfoliation is done too harshly, it can irritate the skin’s inner layers. Look for natural and gentle methods to exfoliate. Harsh is not necessarily effective. If you routinely cleanse your skin, why exfoliate? Exfoliation removes those dead cells that leave your skin looking dull and lifeless and gives your skin a smooth and healthy radiance. Exfoliation also exposes fresh cells and promotes the growth of new ones. This keeps your skin looking younger and gives a softer, smoother appearance and takes the hard edge off of wrinkles. That’s a plus at any age!

Face masks cleanse deeply and remove the build-up of products that clog pores. A good mask will nourish, moisturize, and replace minerals. If a mask includes toning, it shouldn’t dry or tighten the skin. It should leave your skin feeling soft and resilient with a healthy, glowing appearance. Applied on a regular basis, a mask can re-hydrate dry skin or soak up excess oil and tighten pores on oily skin. Be sure to use one that is appropriate for your skin-type.SO how do we spoil our skin?

Facials cleanse, hydrate and renew your skin. They are deep skin treatments that help minimize blemishes, acne and wrinkles while restoring moisture. Facials vary by skin type, age, and desired treatment. Choosing a facial that is right for your skin type involves different natural skin care products and ingredients that are used for specific purposes. An example would be an aromatherapy facial in which natural essential oils are used for specific curative properties. Facials are also very relaxing and help clear skin congestion and improve its functions. Doesn’t that sound luxurious? Jasmine and lavender may be just what the Dr. ordered!

The basic steps to a facial are to cleanse, massage, steam and apply a facemask. Cleansing removes the dead, outer layer of cells and is followed by a massage to help blood circulation, which promotes the removal of toxins and waste from the body. It also relaxes your facial muscles and helps prevent premature wrinkles. Steaming softens blackheads for easy removal and improves the skin’s ability to absorb. Finally, the mask removes blackheads, unclogs pores and tones your skin.

After all that pampering to improve the look and feel of your skin, it is important to protect your investment. Applying sunscreen will help keep your skin in the condition you work so hard to achieve.

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) numbers of various sunscreen lotions come from laboratory experiments. The higher the SPF number, the longer it will prevent sun damage to your skin. But the length of protection time varies for different skin complexions. It may be surprising to learn that people with lighter complexions are protected longer with a weaker SPF than those with darker complexions. For example, a sunscreen with SPF 15 should last from 45 minutes for a darker complexion, to 90 minutes for a lighter complexion. The darker your complexion, the more often you should apply sunscreen. Of course everyone should reapply sunscreen after physical exercise or going into the water.

Your skin is a reflection of your health and well-being. You will wear it for a lifetime. Take the time to pamper it, protect it and its beauty will shine through.

Clean Skin Routine

Posted by Admin Friday, 25 September 2009

You'll be amazed at how easy it is to achieve great looking skin. Just get into the right skin care habits and glow your way to a health skin.

The Seven Skin Habits

  1. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. Water flushes out the toxins from your system and will keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
  2. Exercise for at least thirty minutes everyday. It brings blood and nutrients to the skin and tones those muscles.
  3. Get plenty of sleep, you'll look and feel great! Try an aroma therapy pillow for more soothing dreams.
  4. Wear sunscreen. The sun is especially harsh nowadays so guard your skin.
  5. Load up on fresh fruits and vegetables. The organic way to yummy, glowing skin.
  6. Don't smoke. Smoking destroys the vitamin C that keeps your skin looking young and healthy. It will definitely age your skin.
  7. Relax and unwind. Say goodbye to the stress in your life. Light a scented candle, dim the lights, and put on your favorite mellow CD or MP3, then drift off into the world of serenity.

Clean Skin Routine

  • In the morning, cleanse and freshen your skin with a mild cleanser.
  • At night, cleanse then exfoliate. Remember not to be too harsh when you exfoliate.
Skin Tips: If your skin is oily, try not to wash your face too often. You should only cleanse 2-3 times a day with a gentle cleanser. Washing until your face is tight and dry triggers your oil glands to produce more oil, thus making your face oilier and prone to break outs. When you wash your face, use warm, not cold water. warm water helps dissolve oil and dirt. But if the water is very hot, be careful! It can break the tiny veins in your skin.

Wash before you exercise. Your sweat acts as your skin extra cleanser. If your skin is clogged with make up, powder, or foundation, your sweat don't be able to cleanse efficiently. When you sweat don't wipe your face with your hands or your arm, use a clean towel.

Steam Clean: Prepare for a big bowl of hot (not boiling) water. For combination skin mint and lemon peel are a successful combination. Cover your head with a towel and make a tent of it as you lean over the bowl. trapping the steam. enjoy the feeling for 5 minutes then pat dry then exfoliate. Our skin constantly change. It undergoes a cycle of 28-40 days, then our skin is renewed again. Exfoliants are good for removing the daed skin on your face.

To remove excess oil without clogging your pores with powder, try usinga control film. It doesn't remove moisture, and you can actually get a kick out of seeing how much oil you had on your face.

Enjoy Happy Weekend!

  • Dress with care = Wear clothes that protect your body, cover as much of your body as possible. If you plan to be outside on a sunny day. Wear a wide brimmed hat, long sleeves and long pants. Use an umbrella for shade. And don't forget to protect your lips and your eyes as well, Wear UV protected sunglasses and lip balm with SPF.
  • Reduce time in the sun = This is especially recommended from 10 am to 4 pm, when the sun's rays are strongest, Even on an overcast day, up to 80% of the sun's rays can get through the clouds. Stay in the shade as much as possible throughout the day.

Caring for your Dry Skin

Posted by Admin Monday, 1 December 2008

When our skin loses moisture, its surface starts to crack. Sometimes the dry skin is just itchy, without a rash. Dry skin usually affects the lower legs, back of the hands, and forearms. Other times, the dry areas may develop dermatitis, which results in itchy skin that's red and raw.

There are factors that contribute to dry, cracked skin include:

  • Chapping and skin irritation due to friction.
  • Certain soaps, detergents, and solvents.
  • Hypothyroidism, or excessive weight loss.
  • Advancing age, which causes a noticeable decrease in the natural lubrication of the skin.
  • Too frequent bathing or showering, especially in chlorinated water.
  • Cool and dry weather, especially when the winds are strong or humidity is low.
  • Air-conditioning.
  • and Genetics.
Moisture is the key to dry skin. You can prevent or reverse dry skin, whether on wet or dry days. Just try to this tips:
  • Apply moisturizer liberally and often, particularly after bathing and when skin feels itchy. The drier the skin, the thicker the application shoud be, especially on the hands.
  • A bath a day is enough, especially since we don't sweat as much in rainy weather as we do in hot summer months. For extra measure, use lukewarm, not hot water, and keep baths brief.
  • Use non-drying soap substitutes or gentle moisturizing soaps that cleanse your skin without removing its natural oil.
  • Apply a barrier hand cream (ask your doctor or pharmacist) or petroleum jelly if your hands or legs are frequently in water especially in floodwater.
  • Pat, don't rub, your skin dry after you bath or shower.
  • Use hypoallergenic cosmeticss

Itchy Skin? Itchy Scalp?

Posted by Admin Tuesday, 23 September 2008

The term "Tinea" is used for most fungal skin infections, these are also known as ringworm (on the body, limbs or scalp), athlete's foot and jock itch (in the groin). A fungus is a microscopic organism distantly related to plants. Some fungi can grow on the body commonly affected areas include the skin, scalp, feet, the fingernails, and toenails, and also the moist linings in the mouth and vagina. The fungi that causes tinea make the skin become red, warm, moist environment to grow well, so they rapidly settle into warm sweaty skin, particularly that between the toes and in the groin. On other areas of the skin tinea may appear as a red patch with a clearer center, or on the scalp as an inflamed, swollen patch, possibly with some loss of hair (more common on children).

Fungi can be caught from animals (and pets), soil or other people (usually via infected surfaces, such as shower basins or bathrooms floors). These fungi can live undetected on your body for some months before they multiply enough to cause redness or soreness.

Some useful tips to prevent tinea or skin fungi:

* Keeping your skin as clean as dry as possible, shower or bathe daily, dry thoroughly between your toes and skin folds. Use a hair dryer if necessary.
* Wearing socks and loose clothing made from fibers that draw moisture away from the skin, such as wool, cotton or the newer synthetic fibers.
* Washing the shower and bath using a bleach based product every a couple of days.
* Washing socks, towels, bathmats and underpants in very hot water (over 60 C) and drying them well.
* Regularly washing floors (with very hot water and soap) where you walk in bare feet.
* Not sharing towels and clothing
* Using anti fungal creams, lotions or sprays from the pharmacy or as prescribed by doctors.

Efortless skin protection from days work

Posted by Admin Sunday, 14 September 2008

A day at the office can subject your skin to stresses and if gotten worst skin cancer, you might be aware of dehydration from heating and cooling systems, ultra violet radiation from fluorescent lighting or unshaded window and prolonged exposure from photocopiers and other office machinery(not to mention what drinking several cups of coffee can do to your skin's hydration level.

The solution? Your first line of defense is a good moisturizer with SPF (sun protection factor) and antioxidants vitamins to help counteract UV radiation. If you sit by a window, ask to have a solar filter instead. If you're near a radiator, get humidifier or place a bowl of water on the radiator to help get some moisture in the air and keep skin more supple.

Avoid pressing the phone or cellphone against your face, a pore clogging habits that's a frequent cause of jawline acne. Disinfect your phone regularly, especially if someone else has used it.

Finally, don't stay glued to your desk all day. Revving up your circulation by taking a walk around the block or even the office can ward of greenish cast. Your skin will improve and you'll feel rejuvenated, ready to face another one on one with your computer or perhaps an evening out having your celebrity skin.

Quick Tip: DIY treatment for dry skin

Posted by Admin Friday, 5 September 2008

Dry, flaky skin is usually cause by low production of oil by the sebaceous glands. In such cases, there isn't enough oil on on skin to create a protective barrier. Eventually, the skin dries out because there's not enough oil to keep moisture from evaporating. Sometimes skin can get so dry that it itches and feels tight. Water itself cannot penetrate the skin, and pouring water on your face can, in fact, take even more moisture away from the face.

DIY treatment - Use a facial moisturizer that absorbs quickly, preferably one without any fragrance. People with dry skin should avoid any type of skin care products with cologne perfume, and alcohol because these cause dryness. Moisturizing lotions with natural oils also prevent moisture loss and add softness.

Acne: Simple understanding and prevention

Posted by Admin Saturday, 23 August 2008

Squeezing only makes them angrierImage by slopjop via Flickr Understanding Acne - is a common disorder that occurs when glands secrete too much oil in the skin. The excessive oil causes pimples that are usually found on the face, but sometimes also on the back, shoulders, and chest.

Pimple attacks are common among teenagers. But acne may persist in adulthood because of hormonal imbalance or too much estrogen (maybe that's why i still have some). During menstruation and menopause, stress due to emotional problems, and a bad diet.

A more direct cause of acne is dirt and dead skin that accumulates inside oily pores, clogging them and causing a raise buildup. When a bacteria enters the picture, pimples occur. Other causes can include allergies, dehydration, heredity, and weakened immunity.

Simple Prevention - First treat the surrounding skin area, not just the spot where the pimple is. This will not just heal the pimple but also prevent recurrence. And second do not over wash. Excessive washing will make skin even oilier and more likely to break out again. Also resist the temptation to pop your pimples. Touching causes inflammation making it more infected than it already is. Follow a sensible skin care regimen, including a mild toner that maintains the PH-balance of your skin and keeps it from dying out or getting too oily. Use the toner after washing with a medicated facial wash.
