Posted by Admin Monday, 26 July 2010

Almonds, peanuts, pistachio, cashew, walnuts, hazelnuts etc. Who doesn't like nuts?, I only know few people who dislike nuts, Mainly because of health problems and they can't take it. but the rest just all love nuts. When you start eating, sometimes you just can't stop. It's hard to tell yourself. " okay go get 3 pieces only! " We usually end up with a handful or two handfuls or even three. There is nothing wrong with that As long as you have to know when to stop. Nuts are usually high in calories when taken in large amounts. You should at least eat 2 ounces of nuts a week.

You may want to add nuts in your diet but you have to balance it. when nuts are combined with other very healthy foods, The results can be surprisingly remarkable. You can try to switch your unhealthy snacks to nuts, such as potato chips or high calorie cookies and chocolates. Nuts may not cure any diseases directly but its a step or a way to help battle those illness.

Here are the lists of benefits you get from being nutty, i mean from eating nuts.

It has arginine, a substance that may help you improve the function of your blood vessels.

Nuts has mono- and polyunsaturated fats, which is good for the heart. So if you love your heart eat nuts.

the omega-3 usually found in walnuts, another helpful fat that helps heart problems.

And finally nuts may helps you lower cholesterol. Again, good nutrtion works best with a well balanced diet. So don't just grab some nuts and eat as much as you can. Balance it. ! happy eating!

Diet? try Cookies!

Posted by Admin Saturday, 22 May 2010

I came across this box, while checking out some weight-loss products last Saturday at the mall. I have no plan of buying any weight-loss products, because I'm very much satisfied with my weight now. I just want to see this cookie that my sister is planning to try.

So, i have to do my homework and did my research on this.
The Hollywood cookie diet, they say, is the first delicious way to lose weight. You'll only need to take 4 cookies a day. One cookie each meal- breakfast,mid-morning(brunch,) lunch, and mid-afternoon snack. They say that it will actually help you to lose weight, without the bitter feeling of those other weight-loss products and it'll make you feel full.and after those 4 cookies, you have to follow it with a "sensible" dinner.

Each box has 4 individually wrapped chocolate chip cookies inside. It has 20 grams of fiber, 20 grams of protein, 13 of vitamins and minerals, zero trans-fat and based on the caloric restriction of meal replacement and portion control.

Even though the results varies in each individuals. Moderate physical activity or exercise can help you more in loosing weight while taking this cookie. Hollywood cookie diet can help you reach your desired weight, They say that you can eat as long as you want until you achieve the weight you've always wanted.

Now, I don't want to sound I'm promoting this kind of diet and i don't want to sound I'm against it. I still believe that even though this kind of diet may be effective. People should not rely on this solely. If you don't have a very hectic schedule like Hollywood actors do, It's still better to at least give your self a time for a little exercise and eat healthy foods..

Milk or Fitbone tech?

Posted by Admin Friday, 23 April 2010

Have you ever thought of being taller? A lot of my friends would love to be taller. Lucky for me I'm tall enough for my age..... i guess. There are ways to be taller, There are operations that will help you to add more height.

A good example is The Fitbone technology.

Fitbone Technology was originally intended to correct shortened or deformed limb bones caused by injury, disease or other causes like congenital defect. Today, it is the latest technology in limb lengthening and strengthening. Through this technology, an individual can gain up to 180 mm in height in about six months.

The Fitbone procedure is much safer to use and simpler to perform compared to the conventional bone extension surgery methods known today. Unlike the external frame that is bulky and seen on the outside, the Fitbone is placed intramedullarily or inside the bone. Fitbone uses a steel implant that gradually lengthens when activated by a wireless control unit. The device is inserted into the hollow of a bone that has been cut crosswise. The device, activated by the remote control unit, increases in length at 1 mm a day. The bone's cut ends grow and fuse eventually.

But if you're still young, then you don't need Fitbone a simple balanced diet would be perfect. If you're small and your afraid that your kids will inherit your genes, then try to give them a well balanced diet.

milk is high in calcium, Vitamin b and protein, Enough sleep is also needed because this will increase growth hormone to make them taller. It's really our choice to make our children and ourselves taller naturally or not.

Control your Diet, Control your Acne

Posted by Admin Tuesday, 2 March 2010

Acne and diet, the great debate. Many people have acne problems that actually hinders to their day to day lives. Sometimes these acne problems has gone so far to the point that it lose someone's self esteem. Worry no more, Acne can actually be controlled or prevented by making some changes in your lifestyle.

Before, Science explains that there is no found connections with acne and diet or acne and sweets/oily foods. No direct relations that it has to do something with why pimples just keep on popping. But because there is no proof, this doesn't mean that you'll no longer get a healthy and a well-balanced diet.

Now, Recent studies have clearly found a significant connection between diet and acne.A healthy diet can prevent or even eliminate acne or pimples. That's why it's important to have a healthy diet regime for over all wellness and for your skin too.

Stress is one of the leading causes of acne. Vitamin B-2 is popular vitamin as an anti-depressant. So foods like whole grains, fish, egg, green leafy vegetables are all rich in vitamin b2 that can prevent stress and eventually acne. Zinc supplements from eggs, wheat can prevent pimples from showing. They say that if you have a healthy diet you have a healthy skin, so if your eating too much unhealthy foods, it is shown on your skin.Vitamin b-3 helps in the proper circulation of our body, it reduces cholesterol and maintain good metabolism.

Sugar, carbohydrates and milk. oh yes milk. can produce too much hormones, that trigger the hyper-production of sebum oil resulting in more acne.

The debate whether acne has connection with diet or not, continues. However, It is still important that we maintain a healthy diet not only for our skin but for our over all wellness.

Healthy Diet helps prevent Cancer

Posted by Admin Monday, 14 September 2009

You may know how painful it is to die from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. That is true, but there is good news.

Scientists have known for quite a few years that diet can help you avoid disease. In fact, it has been shown that about 34% of all cancer is related to what you eat and drink. And it has also been shown that diet can reduce your chances of getting cancer.

Nutrients in some food can decrease your chance of cancer. You can also improve your chances of not getting cancer by avoiding some foods.

The Power of Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits (like Hackberry and Loquat and Dragonfruit (Hylocereus spp.; Cactaceae) and Okra) and vegetables are proven to help prevent many types of cancer including cancer of the mouth and colon. Currently, it is unknown if there are any specific nutrients in these foods that provide protection. There have been experiments on some of the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables like beta-carotene. However, isolating these substances from the original source have not been found to prevent cancer. In fact, some by themselves are found to be harmful. So remember - the whole fruit is many times better than some supplement taken from that food.

Current recommendations are to eat at least one serving of a fruit or vegetable with each meal. They can be fresh, canned or dried. But, they should not be fried like chips.

Whole Grains Keep You Moving

Whole grains like kamut brown rice, cracked wheat and corn on the cob are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber. These are well known to help prevent colorectal cancer. Despite being vital, just using a fiber supplement is not as effective because you need the other nutrients in the whole grain.

Scientists think that the increased fiber helps to keep the stool in the bowel moving smoothly. This prevents constipation in the colon. That being said, there is no evidence that laxatives or any colon cleansing regimen is of any help. In fact they have often been shown to be harmful.

Foods to Avoid

Red meat is a proven contributor to cancer especially colorectal cancer and cancer of the prostate. The best advice is that you make sure to limit the amount you eat to less than three ounces a day. Cutting it out altogether is even better.

Any high fat food will have a similar effect. All of those french fries and corn chips that you have been eating? We know now that they may contribute to your chance of getting cancer.

You may not want to hear this, but alcohol is another culprit. The latest research shows that any alcohol can bump up your chance of getting cancer. But, it is especially a big risk when you have more than two drinks a day for men and one for women. Sorry ladies. Alcohol along with cigarettes contribute to cancer of the mouth, esophagus and larynx (your voice box).

The Four Rules of Diet

1. Most of your food should be directly from plants.

2. Limit your intake of high-fat foods, especially from animal sources.

3. Be physically active: Achieve and maintain a healthy weight, Ok. I cheated a bit on this one - but, you should limit your intake to the amount needed to keep your weight down.

4. No more than one or two drinks a day, if you drink at all.

Use these tips and you will avoid cancer related to your diet.

Tired? Feeling Lazy? Overcome those by...

Posted by Admin Sunday, 9 November 2008

All of us feel tiredness specially from a busy day, but sometimes we feel we don't have the energy to do our usual activities despite a good night sleep. And sometimes we do a relaxing activity we don't feel refreshed. Fatigue or tiredness is often due to a number of causes, oftentimes to a combination of them, psychological causes like depression and stress, physical causes like over or underweight, and lifestyle habits like sleep disorder and night shift. Here are some tip to overcome tiredness and being lazy.

  • Take a more comfortable lifestyle = Evaluate yourself. Take note of the things that makes you feel tired, including problems and pressures at home and at work. Discuss with your family what can be done to get over those pressures. Is it all work for you? People aren't machines, some time for yourself is necessary. Learn relaxation techniques and stress management.
  • Get some enough sleep = Try to go to bed and get up more or less a the same time daily. Don't nap during the day so that when bedtime comes, you'll be drowsy. Don't focus on your inability to sleep. Try to have a bedtime ritual that will signal your body to sleep, such as reading a boring book or listening to slow music. Of course, your room or bed should be comfortable.
  • Do your best to achieve your ideal body weight = For the obese, weight loss should be gradual around two to five pounds a month. Don't go go on a crash diet. A balanced diet with less calories per day is best. Exercise is a healthy way to lose weight. Thin people must build body mass by increasing calorie intake. Gaining muscle strength is important.
  • Exercise regularly = Convince yourself to exercise. If you have been a lazy boy or a couch potato the past several months, start with 15 minutes of walking a a faster face than usual at least four times a week but preferably daily. In time, increase your speed and prolong the duration to 30 minutes. Other forms of aerobic activity = treadmill walking, biking, dancing, swimming, basketball and other sports will also help.
  • Consult your doctor = if still tiredness persists, your doctor can check if you are suffering from depression or other psychological, physical, and medical conditions.
